"MHAT 'Dr. Atanas Dafovski" AD is the largest health-care establishment in the Eastern Rhodopi Mountains, being the Regional Hospital of Kardzhali, MHAT 'Dr. Atanas Dafovski' services cover a total population of 164958 people, of whom 96.246 directly, in an ethnically and religiously mixed area and a border located region.  

It has 345 beds in 15 wards and personnel of 608 people. To 31.03.2011 1 pharmacist and 100 doctors work at the hospital, 89 of whom with one specialty and 16 with two specialties, 1 with three specialties, higher non-medical staff of 12 people, 252 nurses, 136 orderlies ad 81 people of support staff. The hospital consists of the following differentiated facilities:

The hospital has participated in many national and European projects allowing to its staff to obtain systemic knowledge of all the necessary administrative and managerial procedures. In the hospital, there is an organization for the continuous training of medical and non-medical specialists. The team has important experience in implementing projects, as  2 projects under the ETCP GR-BG in the previous programming period were implemented. Under BIOMED-CBC a laboratory for molecular diagnostics was established in partnership with the University of Alexandroupolis and project MediciNet, which strengthened the cooperation with Komotini's Hospital regarding emergency services. Moreover, MPHAT has completed projects for delivery of personal protective equipment and means of collective defense ("Safe work", EUR 44 000). Over the past five years, the hospital has implemented projects of over two million euros from the various funding sources.
